When small framed women have children with large framed men do they need to have cesarean births?
dive-pi.com asked:
My wife is of Asian decent. She’s petite, weighs 41 kilograms and wears size 6 clothing. I’m of Anglo-Saxon decent, I’m 180cm tall and I have a large frame. I suspect our baby will be ‘my size’. Does that mean my wife will need to have a cesarean birth?

Petite size
That thought certainly applies to breeds of dogs…
However, I’ve never really heard of it being a factor in humans. I’m an even smaller size than your wife, and my husband is taller than you with extremely broad shoulders. My doctor mentioned nothing about this affecting me having a natural birth…

Not necessarily, a small frame does not mean that her body can not deliver a large baby. A woman’s body is programmed to give birth.

I did because of my son’s broad shoulders (inherited from dad), but that’s not always the case. She should speak with her doc about this.

Petite size
maybe not.they will be able to tell more as the pregnancy progresses.if at any time the during labor the doctor feels there is a danger of the baby getting stuck he will reccomend emergency c section.which ever way your child comes into the world as long as mom and baby are healthy and safe it is the best way.congrats!!

Not necessarily. I think it depends more on the size and position of the baby at the time of birth, which may or may not correlate with your current size. I know big babies who turned into average size people and tiny babies who turned into very large people.

Oh my…No it doesn’t mean that she will need a C section. I was a size 5, my husband is 6 foot 4 inches 285 lbs. and I gave birth to a an 8 pound 9 ounce baby boy completely naturally. A woman’s body is desgined to give birth. You would be surprised. The Dr will be able to answer that question better closer to the end of her pregnancy.

Not usually. A female’s hips are designed to flex around the baby however the doctor will let you know ahead of time if the baby is too big to birth naturally. Good luck!

Put simply, no.
I’m tall and big, and had too small of a pelvis for the baby to drop; then during labour he went into distress and I had to have a c-section. Who knew that under all this fluffy womanliness there was a small pelvis? I sure didn’t.
So don’t worry, and neither should she. Plenty of small women have borne children from brawny men over thousands of years!
