petite shopping
fairylover asked:

I am really frustrated! I will be moving to NY to work in an office in Manhatten, and I need nice work clothes. I weigh about 85 pounds and wear a size 2 shoe, so shopping is NOT fun for me! I usually have to shop in the little girls dept. but nothing ever fits right, I’m 29, so my body type is way diffrent than a childs!! I have shopped in petite sections too, but still, I may find pants that almost fit in the waist but are way too long.I’ve bought things and had them tailored too,but they still don’t seem to sit on my body right. I don’t even want to mention how hard it is to find comfortable shoes in a size 2 w/o cinderella on them or something!!I’m sorry I’m babbling!! Any suggestions on how I can look professional in and find clothes that fit would really help me out!! I can’t afford to have everything tailored either, I mean I just got a great job in NY, but I’m not there yet!! Please Help!! Thank you!! What I really need are pant/skirt suits, they don’t make those for lil girls

Ever watched What Not To Wear? It might be on now on TLC….anyway they have a site that might have ideas for you.

Their motto is it’s OKAY to have things tailored. So if you by work pants that fit the waist but are too long, it’s ok to have them tailored. Same goes for shirts or bloses that are to wide in the torso, they can be taken up.

Try JCPenney’s petites, Anne Taylor Loft petites & Macy’s too. J.Crew will alter your clothes for you in store for free if you have their credit card.

Edited to add: Found this col site w/ a Manhattan woman talking about being tiny:

ALSO: Try Zappos.com for your shoe size - they deliver fast w/ free returns

No problem New York is one of the most fashionable city in the world. Come to New York before you start to work and go on a shopping spree. Make sure you buy clothe that are interchangeable so your wardrobe will seam larger. Your going to love New York.

    Good luck

i hear you and the only thing i can think of is to learn to sew some great clothes or ask around some churches. some church ladies might be good sewers and willing to alter some clothes for you…
