The Petite Shopper

Advice and Information for Petite Women

I’m almost 20 years old and most of my clothes are from Hollister, AE, and AF. I’m looking for a new, more

sophisticated style. The only problem is that I am only about 5′2 and 112 pounds and many of the petite stores are not aimed towards my age group. Does anyone know a good place for me to shop? I am hoping for a style similar to Rachel Bilson or such. If you could provide store/brand names that would be fantastic :-) also, the loose-fitting shirts that are in style look terrible on me because they make me look even shorter and cut off my body figure.

A lot of big department stores have petite sections. As for those petite stores that aren’t within your age group, don’t look at the store as a whole, look for pieces that are generic and fit any age group.

Forever 21 is great and cheap. Delia’s is also fun, and I know they offer some varying lengths (I’m 5′10, so I know how you feel not being able to find lengths that work!).

You could also try ebay, thrift stores and vintage shops - it’s definitely a big step from Hollister and AE, but so much fun! You never know what you’re going to find.

HM carries very cute, affordable clothes that are more sophisticated
Express and Urban Outfitters are other options, but a bit pricier
also try Delias. some of it is too young for you, but a lot of it can be cute and sophisticated
    (can’t shop online though :( )

Hi, our stats are almost identical, and I get a lot of my clothes from Loehmanns (sp?). They have a variety of styles for people in our age group (also older and younger), and they do carry smaller sizes. I also shop at forever 21 sometimes, but most of their clothes are too big - forget finding pants there (even if you do hem them, they are too baggy). If you have the money, you can try nordstrom’s BP section, but instead I go to Nordstrom rack at the outlet mall - they have a lot of great jeans for much less than what they cost at the mall.

I tend to just shop around and pick some stuff up at target, some at ross, tj maxx, khols, and thrift stores (but with the recession, the thrift stores kind of **** lately). It depends on if you live in a big city or not and have access to nice shops - I live in suburban hell. Anyway, Loehmanns is my go-to place if I need something quick, because they always have something that fits me. At all of these places you have to dig around though. You can also shop at a lot of these places online and return the things if they don’t fit.

    Armani Exchange is a start.

If you got the money, Go BIGG!
go places like Diesel or Gucci or Dior.

(if you still kinda like the hollister and such, try wet seal, for an older look but fun look, that fits your style.)
(check out forever21 clothes, they can be sophisticated and also fit your personality.)

Also, it okay to wear abrocrombie and fitch, hollister, and ae at 20, if you like that style, my uncle is 38 and wears af, i know of a 26 yr. old who loves aero.
