It really depends on your body shape. Overall I would say don't wear any big prints (you would disappear!), oversized accessories & don't wear oversized/shapeless clothes that you swim in. You can always buy clothes that can be altered by a tailor/seamstress.

For shoes, I think most shoes should be okay. Watch out if you're shopping for high boots because regular knee-high ones might end up thigh-high on you. Duoboots.com has a few shorter legged "petite" designs if you are interested. Of course if you want to look taller wear heels. I have foot problems so I can't wear high heels, & also couldn't care less about looking taller, so I don't worry about that.

Shop at petite sections & try on stuff. Note that petite sizes vary widely among different stores. Some stores think petite is just regular size made shorter, so if you have a smaller frame like me their petites will probably be too big. However if you are at least medium-sized it might be a bit easier to find something that fits.

I personally like Banana Republic's petites for work clothes because I don't have to have them altered. I haven't tried Gap petites because they are only online & I **** not trying clothes on first. Ann Taylor/Ann Taylor Loft, Express, etc. are more hit & miss for me in terms of fitting. Macy's & Nordstrom petites are just too big everywhere and they often don't have anything smaller than 2P (I am 00P).

For casual clothes you can try shopping at junior stores (Forever 21, Delia's, Pac Sun, etc), or if you're as minute as me, stuff at Gap Kids that doesn't have sparkles or hearts. :D

Asian clothing stores, if you're near a Chinatown or the like, have small sizes.

i am petite but i don't have the same problem. with my jeans though, every time i buy a pair i ALWAYS have to get them shortened at a tailor. i try not to buy loose clothes because they'll look baggy which will exaggerate my size even more. just make sure your shirts aren't too long and everything is fitting.

That's the same problem with me. Everytime I buy jeans I always have to get them cut.
You should wear skinny jeans to show definition on your legs. Try not to layer your clothes too much because it'll just make you look shorter.
Don't carry oversized bags because they will overpower your figure.
You can wear high heels to make you look taller.
Even though flats have no heel, I still love to wear them.
Hope this helps!
