Special Occasion Fashion Help for a Short Overweight Woman?

Trina C asked:

A recent serious illness and medication required to treat the illness left me seriously obese. Once the medication stopped and I could resume a normal lifestyle, I began losing weight. However, I am still obese now and my daughter is graduating from college at the end of this week. I need to purchase a special outfit for the occasion. The ceremony is at night and we will be having a party for her afterwards. I am totally clueless at what to look for that will not make me look like a whale or a total joke. I am 5 feet 2 with a huge bustline, narrow shoulders, short neck, next to no waist and believe it or not, hips that are slightly narrower than my chest. I do not look good in black, but want to wear a dress or dressy suit in keeping with the event. My normal pre-illness size was petite size 4 with alterations for leg and arm length. Womens size 2X fits through the bust but nowhere else. Style suggestions please and for accessories, too? I still have fat rolls from chest to hip.

a nice skirt suit in gray with pinstipes down will look great. wear a plain v-neck tanktop of a color of your choice. (suggestion: pale-a coral, golden skin- ice blue, deep tan-green, african american- purple) and pumps. Try to stay away from accesories, as most don’t flatter larger body types. but if you need a purse, carry a small, square clutch in black. AND HAVE FUN AND BE CONFIDENT. i swear you’ll look beautiful.

First of all, you need to be positive. Even if you are not the slimmest one in your family, you can still look great. I don’t know what color hair you have, or what your skin tone is, but I have a few ideas. Try to find a nice, dressy suit in gold or bronze. Funky jewelry and high sling-backs would look nice. Good luck, and have fun! ♥

Well, if you want a dress, you’d better get one that had a band under your bust, because that is slimming, and you should get a bright colored dress, that’s floor length and very full, I hope this helps, and good luck! :-)

aw im so sorry about your illness
were you on prednisone? i was on that for a very long time due to crohns diease. okay so there is this store in most big malls and i forget what it is called with there is a yellow sign and i think it starts with a t and i always see overweight women in there wearing faboulous clothes. Im sure that they will have something cute. I wish some of thier clothes came in my size. The important thing is that you comfortable and that you are there for your daughter. thats all that really matters.

best of luck with your health and good wishes to your daughter!

    Create a video blog…instantly.

If you say you have rolls around your tummy really avoid a fitted top, wear something loose, If you have narrow shoulders halter necks and strapless tops create the illusion there bigger and will look more in proportion to your bust.

Big accessories make you look smaller, chunky bracelets make your arms look thinner, massive bags make your body appear smaller.

But the main thing you must wear is heels, they make your legs look thinner and make you feel sexier.

But whatever you do wear, wear it with a confident, genuine smile and you will be gorgeous
