they are probably just telling you that you are thin

Often it means short, because it means small, but essentially, it’s small build/small figure. I know plenty of girls, some as tall as me, I’d still call them petite.

petite means small framed, so could be short or thin. But i personally dont think people can you petite from what you describe. Petite is someone who looks delicate you know tiny framed. And even if you are thin you aren’t petite my any means.
